...in response to columnists, pundits and cartoonists who decry the corruption of the original meanings of Christian holidays.

Okay, rather than just putting my thoughts out here, let's ask you to do some thinking here.

Christianity, as a faith, is a Johnny-Come-Lately compared to Judaism...right?

As we know there were other faiths in the form of established beliefs before and concurrent to Judaism.

Given that we have very apparent seasons, do you really think Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall would pass without a celebration of some sort by the various peoples?

Christianity, in the first place, celebrated the usual Jewish Holy Days, but didn't really get interested in celebrations like Christmas or Easter until they were trying to convert various pagans, and to fascilitate this, appropriated the pagans holidays, and CHANGED their meaning to something to fit with the Christian faith.

Christmas used to be Yule. We still refer to Yuletide.

Easter was Eoster...not a Christian name, but a pagan one (and the eggs and bunnys come from this tradition).

When you say that people are changing or forgetting the "original" meaning of Christmas or Easter, you're talking through your hat. You're spewing bullshit.

Christians don't have any "original" holidays.
